Backpack Buddies
Ensuring Every Child Has Enough to Eat
At Vermilion Forks Elementary, we are proud to partner with Backpack Buddies, a vital program dedicated to ensuring that children facing food insecurity have access to meals and snacks over the weekend.
Food insecurity is a challenge faced by families in every community. For students who rely on school meal programs during the week, the weekend can bring stress and hunger. The Backpack Buddies program helps alleviate this by providing essential food items every Friday.
How the Program Works
The program is simple, confidential, and discreet:
- Weekend Meals: Every Friday, participating students quietly receive a backpack filled with nutritious, kid-approved, and ready-to-eat meals and snacks. These items are meant to last the entire weekend.
- Confidential Support: The food is packaged in bags and distributed in a way that protects the privacy and dignity of every participating student.
- School Partnership: Our school staff works directly with Backpack Buddies to coordinate the weekly delivery and identify the children who will benefit most from this essential support.
